My Way to Clear Skin
Let’s talk skincare… but to be honest, healthy, glowing, clear skin starts with a healthy, clean diet. So, let me start this post with what we all should be (or should not be) putting in our bodies and then I will conquer what we should be putting on ourselves. It’s all interconnected.
Eat real foods people. You might be asking what are “real foods”. Well, let me break this down for you. By definition “food” is anything nutritious that people eat or drink in order to sustain life and support growth, and by definition “real” means not artificial or imitation. Put these two definitions together and real foods are foods that are closest to their natural states as possible, without modification. I am a firm believer that food is not just fuel but can be the best form of medicine. If we have good nutrition, we are only equipping our body’s and ultimately our cells and genes with the means to detoxify our bodies and prevent disease.
So, I stick to “real foods”, but what have I eliminated from my diet? I try to stay clear of red meats, nut butters, most dairy products, chocolate and alcohol. However, I am a firm believer in the 80/20 rule and let myself celebrate life from time to time.
If I can give only one piece of advice it would be DRINK WATER. Drink lots of water.
I ate my way to clear skin, but Beautycounter products have helped me care for my skin in a chemical free fashion. I struggled with a poor complexion for years and I had a skin care routine that took way too long to complete- a routine full of topicals and medicines from the dermatologist. Even still, my complexion was not clear. About two years ago I began to adapt a clean eating lifestyle and a new skin care regime using Beautycounter products. My dear friend Ashley began her own business with the company as a consultant and invited me to her gathering to learn about the products. When I left the gathering I order four products and these four items have since changed my life. I no longer have to worry about a poor complexion. In fact, my skin is so clear I don’t even wear makeup.
The four Beautycounter products that have changed my life are:
· No. 3 Balancing Facial (Charcoal) Mask. This mask cleans and balances the skin while absorbing excess oil and removing impurities. I used this as a full-face mask 1-2 times a week, but I also use it to spot treat blemishes. When I use it as a spot treatment I leave it on all night.
· No. 3 Balancing Facial Mist. This mist absorbs oil, refines the texture of the skin, and helps calm redness. I use this mist more as a toner, but for those of you who wear makeup it is a great primer or setting spray.
· No. 3 Balancing Facial Oil. This facial oil is blend of seven natural oils that moisturizes and smooths the skin. The No. 3 facial oil is honestly great for all skin types because of the balancing properties in the meadowfoam seed oil. I prefer oils over lotions because lotions fail to provide adequate hydration for the skin. The smaller particles in facial oils lock in moisture more effectively because the smaller particles make it is easier to penetrate the skin.
· Charcoal Cleansing Bar.This bar is a detoxifying-cleansing bar. It’s perfect for oily or blemish-prone skin. It removes impurities without drying out the skin. I wash my face morning and night with this bar.
If you are not acne prone or do not have oily skin, there are still Beautycounter products for you. The biggest reason I love Beautycounter is because of its mission… to get safer products in the hands of everyone. We are exposed to toxic chemicals every day. The average home contains 62 toxic chemicals and there are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. The worst news about these numbers is that the FDA does not regulate or require these chemicals to be removed from products in the skin care and beauty industry. I am going to wrap this up here because 1) I am super passionate about it and could write pages and 2) I will save it for another blog post in the future.
